I remember the first time I ever had blackened redfish. It was at my mom and stepdad's house on the river and the whole family was over for a get-together. My stepdad had caught redfish that day fishing on the Intracoastal.
He filleted the fish and fried it up in a cast iron pan with delicious, bold blackened spices.
He served the fish on a paper plate that was passed around the room and we nibbled on little bits as an appetizer while we sat and visited.
It was informal, family-style, deliciousness that you can only find when sharing the freshest food with people you love.
It was that day that I fell in love with blackened seasoning and anything and everything that includes any kind of Cajun seasoning.
I know you are going to love this simple, yet flavorful combination of herbs and spices as much as I do!
WHAT'S BLACKENED SEASONING
Blackened seasoning is a mixture of herbs and spices that are used to make "blackened" proteins that are cooked in a skillet.HOW TO USE BLACKENED SEASONING?
The blackening process involves dipping your protein into melted butter followed by blackening seasoning. The meat is cooked in a very hot pan until it develops a blackened crust. You can also use blackened seasoning to spice up other recipes in your kitchen! Try sprinkling some into pasta dishes, on roasted vegetables, in dips, or added to almost any dish that uses savory spices.ARE CAJUN SEASONING AND BLACKENED SEASONING THE SAME THING?
Yes and no! Cajun seasoning is rooted in Louisianna and consists of a base of garlic powder, onion powder, and pepper. It is often combined with several other dried herbs and spices. Blackened seasoning is also rooted in Louisianna and adds paprika, oregano, thyme, and several varieties of pepper. Because there are so many versions of cajun seasoning and blackened seasoning with similar ingredients, they can often be used interchangeably.HOW TO STORE CAJUN BLACKENED SEASONING
Store blackened seasoning in an airtight container for up to one year.MORE SPICE MIX RECIPES
