Weekends are meant to be for special breakfasts, don't you think?  I love the days when I can lay in bed for as long as my heart desires followed by an unrushed breakfast around the table with my family.

Actually, I should call those weekend breakfasts brunch because by the time breakfast actually makes it to the table on our lazy weekend mornings it's almost lunchtime!  Either way, weekends are totally for more than cereal or toast.

Our usual brunch menu for the weekends is scrambled eggs with cheese, toast or bagels, fresh fruit, and bacon.  Easy and simple, yet perfect for our family.  Sometimes, though, I like to mix it up with something extra special like these delish cinnamon rolls!

Do you make cinnamon rolls at home?  If you're not, you totally should be!  They can be a little labor intensive if you're making your own dough, but this recipe provides a super clever shortcut to get the job done in just 30 minutes.  Sweet, right?

The time-saving secret to these easy to make cinnamon rolls is crescent rolls (or crescent dough sheets, which I actually prefer).  The texture is soft, delicate, and perfect for wrapping up all of that delicious cinnamon sugar.  You've got to try it!  Then they're topped with a fabulous cream cheese glaze.

Of course, you could always skip the glaze step, but why would you want to?  The glaze for these little rolls is flavored with orange juice and vanilla.  It is simple and sweet and literally the icing on the cinnamon roll cake!

prep time: cook time: total time: 30 MIN

INGREDIENTS

3 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 package crescent roll dough or crescent roll sheet
2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
2 tablespoons cream cheese, at room temperature
1 tablespoon orange juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup powdered sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly coat the inside of a 7-inch x 5-inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.

2. Unroll the crescent dough. (If using crescent rolls, pinch seams to seal.) Brush the dough with 1 teaspoon of the melted butter, leaving a 1/4-inch border with no butter.

3. In a bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly over the dough leaving a 1/4 inch border with no sugar. Drizzle with the remaining melted butter.

4. Roll the dough (starting with the long end) into a tight log. Cut into 8 equal pieces and carefully place into the baking dish cut side up. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

5. Meanwhile, combine the room temperature butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer. Beat in the orange juice, vanilla, and powdered sugar until combined. Spread onto the cinnamon rolls when they come out of the oven, serving any leftover glaze on the side.

  1. I just tried it and with an 8 oz crescent roll pack I could only cut 6 out and the 1/2 cup sugar was wayyy to much. While it may look a little sparse, i’d cut the filling brown sugar in half, and cut the butter down to 2Tbsp if you use the 8 oz can.

  2. Just made these for breakfast and they are delicious! I used crescent rolls dough, and it was really messy, but I was able to cut into 8 pieces and place messily in the pan. I thought the 5x7 pan seemed small, but it was perfect for containing the rolls and making them bake up perfectly brown and crispy! I thought the amount of filling was appropriate, but you could put less if you like them less sweet. There was probably too much icing, if that's a thing. It is not necessary to use all of it.
