When I was little, I hated spicy food.  I think most kids are that way.  Well, except for my nephew.  That boy, who is still in single digits, loves spicy stuff!  He's a cool cat, that kid.

Well, since I've "grown up", I've learned that spicy foods can taste pretty freaking amazing.  I actually crave spicy foods now.  There's something about that my-mouth-is-on-fire feeling that reminds you you're alive.

I'm also a nibbler.  I like nibbling on little savory snacks, like chips, pretzels and nuts. I had some pecans left over from Thanksgiving that have been calling me, so I decided to make a savory snack with them.  They're kind of a spin on my Sugar Coated Pecans, which are a candied nut.  Sweet, crunchy and delicious.

But, if you're a savory snacker, like me, you'll love these spicy little nuts.  This savory spicy recipe is the perfect way to create a snack that you'll love!  Just a tiny bit sweet, perfectly spicy and completely addictive.

Ingredients
  • 3 cups nuts (I used pecans)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp ground coriander

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Line a baking pan with foil and lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl beat egg white and water until frothy.  Add sugar, cinnamon, salt, cayenne pepper, cumin and coriander and beat to combine.  Add the nuts to the spice mixture and toss to coat.
  3. Spread nut mixture in even layer on the pan.  Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and nuts appear dry, stirring once.  Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
